What is KAWS?
Kalamata Animal Welfare Society ( greek abbr.: PHOK) is a legal non government organisation that works under Greek laws. It is financed exclusively by donations and member fees.
KAWS was founded in 1996 by a small group of Greeks and foreign animal lovers who wished to help the stray animals in the city of Kalamata and the surrounding area. It soon found support from the local but also from the foreign community of Kalamata and consequently its board is made up of members from various countries.
KAWS has about 100 members but aspires to increase that number as well as its area and amount of influence in order to really make a difference in the area of animal welfare.
To achieve that we are cooperating with the authorities of the city of Kalamata, with local veterinarians and other animal welfare organisations in Greece.
